Merry Christmas to All

Merry Christmas to All

It is 11:42 on Christmas Eve.  I am sitting in my pj’s with the lights of the tree on, waiting for my “little ones” to be asleep before I put their presents under the tree.  As I sit here, I am reflecting on a remarkable service that concluded just a few hours ago.  One that was mostly presented by the young people of our congregation.  Everyone ages 1-18 was a part of the magic that blessed all this evening.  In Sunday School, we have been remembering the journey of advent – the stories of the prophets, the journey of Mary and Joseph, the surprise and awe of the shepherds and their journey from the fields, the journey of the wisemen – all leading to the Christ child.  At the end of each lesson we extinguish the flame of the Advent candles and watch the smoke spread into the air and we are reminded that we are to share the Good News of Christ to everyone we encounter.  Those little one’s may not have realized it, but they did so tonight.  They gave me goose bumps as they depicted the scene that long ago night.  They continue to spread the spirit through all the pictures and retelling that have already been passed along in just the few hours since the service ended.  I struggled to focus on the “Reason for the Season” this year, but it was fully planted in my heart this evening as I absorbed the music presented by our young people, watched the pageant being played out and witnessed how capably our youth handled the many duties of conducting the service.  I can not begin to describe to those who have not experienced it how the Spirit of Christ fills St. Anne’s and wraps around you when we come together to worship.  Thank you to each and every member of my St. Anne’s family for your part in bringing the Christmas spirit home this evening and for continuing to spread the Good News.

Merry Christmas to all…
